As part of the Institute’s mission of providing high quality education, Educational Systems Technological Institute (ESTI) renewed its ISO 9001:2008 certification on September 19, 2007.
Such certification was secured from Bureau Veritas Certification Philippines Inc., with local office address at Ermita, Manila.
The ISO Certification ensures that ESTI produces quality graduates as determined by international standards. To date, ESTI is the only school in Marinduque with such certification.
The certification issued by Bureau Veritas has the scope “Provision of Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation course in accordance with STCW ’95 upgrading courses and CHED’s Quality Standard Requirements” and is valid until August 10, 2010, subject to ESTI’s compliance to standards, which will be verified through three (3) surveillance visits. Each visit will be done annually.
The first surveillance visit was done on April 11, 2008 by Bureau Veritas auditor, Engr. Reynaldo de Guzman.
The certification audit, which was done prior to issuance of certificate, was conducted by Mr. Gayle Russel Capulong and Ms. Gwendolyn Bruno – Red.
Both audits were done using sampling method, where records and documents were selected randomly to check compliance of the system with ISO standards. Non – conformities are classified as major or minor non – conformity.
Non – conformities that radically affect the operation of the system are considered major and require a follow-up audit to ensure compliance. On the other hand, a minor non-conformity is a lapse on the operation of the system.
Both kinds of non-conformity should be resolved for the ISO certification to continue.
Engr. Emmanuel S. Sadiwa is the Quality Assurance Manager and supervises the operation of the ESTI Quality Standard System to ensure its compliance not only to ISO standards but to CHED and TESDA standards as well.
Prior to Bureau Veritas, ESTI was given ISO certification first by Lloyd’s of London, then by Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS).
